Radiation Information

SafeBeam™ Technology

Only NewTom CBCT units utilize SafeBeam™ technology.  SafeBeam™ automatically adjusts the radiation dosage depending on each patient's size and age thus eliminating any risk of unnecessarily high doses of exposure.  Our units allow for a wider range of penetrating power (kV=110) and quantity (mA=1-20) which permits the technology to tailor the exposure to each specific patient while keeping the image contrast consistent despite the patient's size or bone density.

In addition, this technology uses quick intermittent bursts of radiation, lasting only a millisecond each, during the scanning process which further lowers the patient's exposure.  Although the scanner takes 15-25 seconds to revolve around the patient's head, by using this "pulsed" emission of radiation the patient receives no longer than 5 seconds total exposure.  Other machines produce a constant stream of radiation during the scan and don't allow the adjustment of radiation whether scanning an adult or small child. As a result, radiation exposure for this type of scan is minimal. It is equivalent to 1/10 of a chest CT scan

Our CBCT Unit

Our CBCT Scanner is an upright machine allowing the patient to sit comfortably in a chair.  The machine makes a full 360° rotation around the head producing 360 images allowing greater possibilities in image manipulation.

Each of our mobile units are equipped with a NewTom Cone Beam VGi Flex. The NewTom VGi Flex was the first CBCT machine engineered to be mobile.  Most other CBCT scanners are extremely sensitive and require lengthy calibration making mobile services next to impossible or compromising image quality.
